Peanut butter, the recipe to make it at home

Peanut butter, the recipe to make it at home…

Cooking is an ever-evolving universe, an amazing journey through flavors and traditions. Today, I want to take you on a culinary adventure, where simplicity meets taste: the creation of homemade peanut butter. This delicacy, beloved all over the world, hides behind its apparent simplicity, a world of nuances and possibilities.

Ingredients :

  • 500g (1 lb 1.6 oz or about 2 1/4 cups) unsalted roasted peanuts
  • 2-3 tablespoons peanut oil or other neutral oil (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • 2-3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional)

How to prepare Peanut butter :

  1. First of all, choose high quality peanuts. Unsalted roasted peanuts are ideal for this recipe, as they offer a rich flavor and perfect texture. To roast them, heat the oven to 180°C (340°F) and hold them for 6 to 8 minutes. This step intensifies their flavor and makes it easier to cream them.
  2. Transfer the peanuts while still warm to a blender or food processor. Blend at high speed, stopping occasionally to scrape the sides of the container. Initially, the peanuts will turn into a fine powder, then begin to release their natural oils, turning into a paste.
  3. At this point, you can customize your peanut butter. Add a pinch of salt to enhance the flavor, a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup for a sweet note, or a little oil for a creamier texture. These steps are optional and can be adapted to your personal taste.
  4. Continue blending until you achieve the desired consistency. For a more rustic peanut butter, blend for less time. For a creamier version, continue until you reach a smooth, spreadable consistency.
  5. Transfer the peanut butter to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator. It will keep fresh and delicious for several weeks. Remember that homemade peanut butter contains no preservatives, so it is important to store it properly.
