Caprese Savory Tart: The Appetizer Everyone Loves!…
Caprese is the quintessential summer appetizer. Beloved by Italians for its freshness and simplicity, it is one of the most famous and well-known appetizers in the world. And after all, how can you not love it? A few ingredients that, assembled together, give life to a real treat! Mozzarella, tomato and basil: fresher, simpler and more Italian than this, you cannot!
Ingredients:
- 1 pack of round puff pastry
- 350 grams (about 12 ounces) Mozzarella
- 150 grams (about 5 ounces) Tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons Basil pesto
- Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), as needed
- Oregano, as needed
- Salt, as needed
How to prepare Caprese Savory Tart:
- First cut the tomatoes, pour them into a bowl and season with oil, salt and oregano.
- Slice the mozzarella (if you use fior di latte, let it drain in a colander so that it loses its water).
- Unroll the puff pastry inside a baking dish and spread two to three tablespoons of basil pesto.
- Stuff the savory pie by alternating the sliced mozzarella with the tomatoes.
- Fold the excess puff pastry inward to form a border and add the last slices of filling. Sprinkle with fresh oregano.
- Bake in a preheated ventilated oven at 200° (390°F) for about 40 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven, let it set for a few minutes, and your savory caprese pie is ready to serve.
