Easy Baked Apples : Old-Fashioned…

Baked apples are a timeless winter dessert, typical of home cooking, wholesome and easy to make, faster than the classic apple pie but more delicious than the fruit enjoyed on its own. You will only need a handful of ingredients peqr cook this recipe: some crispy and juicy baked apples, a mild-tasting honey, sugar and a dash of cinnamon, which will add an aromatic touch to this rustic treat.

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 4 Golden Delicious apples (about 2 lbs or 950g total)
  • 1/4 cup (40g) brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon acacia honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup (50g) water

How to prepare easy baked Apples:

  1. Cut the lemon into wedges and set aside.
  2. Peel the apples using a vegetable peeler.
  3. Remove the core and seeds using an apple corer, then trim any remaining peel with a small knife.
  4. Rub the peeled apples with a lemon wedge to prevent browning.
  5. Put the brown sugar in a bowl and roll the apples in it to coat their entire surface.
  6. Place the apples in a baking dish that fits them snugly.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining brown sugar over the apples, making sure it gets into the hollowed-out centers.
  8. Using a sieve, dust the apples with cinnamon.
  9. Pour water into the bottom of the baking dish to prevent the apples from sticking and the sugar from burning.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 30 minutes.
  11. After the initial baking time, remove the dish from the oven and drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey over the apples to make them glossy.
  12. Return to the oven for another 10 minutes at the same temperature.
  13. Once finished, remove the baked apples from the oven and dust with granulated sugar to make them even more appealing.
  14. Serve the baked apples while still warm, drizzled with the cooking juices from the bottom of the dish.
