- 220 g (1 cup + 1 tablespoon) granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 pinch of salt
How to Make Meringues? Here’s the Recipe for This Delightful Sweet Treat
- Before you begin, make sure you have all the ingredients on hand. Carefully separate the egg whites from the yolks, being careful not to drop any traces of yolk into the egg whites. Any presence of yolk could compromise the assembly of the egg whites.
- Now that the egg whites are ready, transfer them to a clean, dry bowl. Add a pinch of salt to stabilize the foam and begin whipping with an electric whisk or mixer on low speed. When the egg whites begin to form small bubbles, you can increase the speed gradually.
- As the egg whites whip, add the sugar a little at a time. Keep whipping until the mixture becomes glossy and forms stiff peaks. To check if the sugar has dissolved completely, take some of the mixture between your fingers and rub gently. If you don’t feel any sugar granules, you are ready for the next step.
- Add the vanilla extract to the whipped mixture and mix gently with a spatula. The vanilla will add a delicious aroma to your meringues, making them even more irresistible.
- Prepare a baking sheet lined with baking paper and transfer the meringue mixture inside a piping bag with a nozzle to taste. Form pretty little clumps or mounds of meringue on the baking paper.
- Finally, bake the meringues in a preheated oven at 100°C (210°F) for about 1.5 to 2 hours or until dry and crispy on the outside. Remember to leave the oven door slightly ajar to allow moisture to escape, resulting in perfect meringues.
