Ingredients for Mom’s Apple Fritters:
- 200g (1 1/2 cups) plain flour / all-purpose flour
- 150ml (2/3 cup) whole milk
- 2 whole eggs
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 sachet (1 teaspoon) baking powder
- Juice of 2 lemons
- 2 large sweet apples
- 80g (1/3 cup) brown sugar
- Icing sugar / powdered sugar, as needed
- Vegetable oil for frying, as needed
How to make Mom’s Apple Fritters:
- Put the milk, eggs, half the brown sugar and a pinch of salt in a bowl (or in the bowl of a planetary mixer if you have one) and mix well.
- Once the ingredients are combined, add the sifted flour with the baking powder to the bowl and mix well with a hand whisk or with the planetary mixer’s leaf tool.
- Peel the apples and core them with a apple remover (so that the apples remain whole), then peel and slice them, creating perforated rounds in the center, about an inch thick.
- Spread the apple slices on a plate and sprinkle them with lemon juice to prevent them from oxidizing and turning black after a few minutes.
- Heat plenty of frying oil in a frying pan and when the oil is up to temperature, take out the apple rounds one at a time, dip them first in the batter and then fry them for a few moments until golden brown.
- As you fry the apple fritters, place them on a tray lined with paper towels to dry them from the oil as much as possible.
- When you have finished frying, coat them in brown sugar, making it stick to both sides.
- Sprinkle the surface of the pancakes with a dusting of powdered sugar and then you can serve them on the table.
