Ingredients :
- 250 ml (1 cup) milk
- 200 g (1 2/3 cups) all-purpose flour (plain flour)
- 80 g (3/4 cup) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast for savory preparations (or baking powder)
- Salt to taste
- 60 g (2 oz) cooked ham
- 60 g (2 oz) sliced cheese (e.g., Cheddar, Gouda, or Swiss)
- Oil or butter for cooking
How to make savory pancake toasts:
- Prepare the savory pancake batter: Place the all-purpose flour, grated Parmesan cheese, and baking powder (or instant yeast for savory preparations) in a bowl. Mix the dry ingredients together. Add the egg and room temperature milk. Mix with a hand whisk until combined. Add salt to taste. Mix again to create a smooth, lump-free batter.
- Prepare the pan: Heat a pan and grease it with butter or oil. Ensure the pan is very hot before cooking.
- Cook the pancake toast: Transfer the pancake batter to a bowl with a spout for easy pouring. Pour the batter to create a rectangle shape in the pan. As the batter begins to set, place a slice of cheese and half a slice of cooked ham on top. Immediately cover the ham and cheese with more pancake batter. Cook for a few minutes until the bottom is golden brown. Flip the pancake toast and cook the other side until golden.
- Serve: The pancake toasts are ready when both sides are cooked and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately while hot and enjoy the delicious, stringy cheese.
