Water Apple Cake : Nonna’s Secret

Water Apple Cake : Nonna’s Secret…

When you ask us for a light, butterless, eggless, easy and quick to prepare cake, the first thing that would come to mind is: no way! Instead, today we are surprising you with a different answer — water apple pie. The merits of water cake meet the rustic gluttony of apple pie, and the result is a simple, fluffy dessert for breakfast and snack for the whole family.

Ingredients :

  • 430g (15 oz) Gala apples
  • 300g (2 1/2 cups) all-purpose flour (or ’00’ flour)
  • 200g (1 cup) granulated sugar
  • 210g (7.4 oz or 7/8 cup) water
  • 120g (4 oz or 1/2 cup) orange juice
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • 90g (1/3 cup + 1 tablespoon) sunflower oil
  • 16g (4 teaspoons) baking powder

How to Prepare Water Apple Cake:

  1. To prepare the water apple pie first sift the flour into a bowl, then add the baking powder and sugar. Mix the powders with a hand whisk.
  2. As you continue to mix, pour in the water, the strained orange juice and the seed oil.
  3. Finally add the grated zest of the orange and mix again. Now wash the apples and cut them first into wedges and then into irregular cubes, without peeling them.
  4. Also add the diced apples to the mixture 10 and stir with a marisa to incorporate them evenly. Pour the resulting mixture into a 22-cm-diameter mold lined with baking paper.
  5. Bake in a preheated static oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 60 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick. Once cooked, take it out of the oven and let it cool before serving your apple water cake!
